As Anvil’s President, Gordy is responsible for leading Anvil to help our clients engineer the
future of energy. Gordy and the management team focus on building and enhancing relationships
with all clients we serve throughout each of our local markets. He works with senior
management to identify annual strategic goals and targets and then monitors progress towards
meeting those goals.
Gordy joined Anvil in 2003 and has served as Anvil’s President since 2014. He has extensive
experience in business and project management for oil refinery, oil production, co-generation,
and pulp and paper facilities. Gordy has led Anvil’s growth into new regions and sectors,
including forming Redi Anvil in Lakewood, CO to further expand our upstream and midstream
capabilities.
Gordy holds a B.S. in Construction Management from Louisiana State University.
John Mahoney
President
As Anvil’s President, John is responsible for leading Anvil to help our clients engineer the future of energy. John and the management team focus on building and enhancing relationships with all clients we serve throughout each of our local markets. He works with senior management to identify annual strategic goals and targets and then monitors progress towards meeting those goals.
John joined Anvil in 2014 as a Project Manager and was promoted to Program Manager in 2017 to oversee all projects in Anvil’s BP Cherry Point Program. He served as Program Manager until becoming President in 2020.
He brings over 30 years of experience in engineering and project management for the oil & gas industry. Before joining Anvil, John held various management roles, including President at NORCON and VP of Project Operations at Fluor.
John holds a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the United States Military Academy (West Point), an M.S. in Construction Engineering, and a Degree of Engineer (Post Masters) from Stanford University. He holds a Professional Civil Engineer license in the State of Virginia.
John Macpherson
Chairman of the Board
John has served on Anvil’s Board since 1997, most recently as Chairman of the Board from 2007-2019.
John joined Anvil in 1971 and served as Anvil’s President from 2003-2009. He has extensive experience in business management, engineering management, project management, and design engineering, primarily for the petroleum refining industry. John led Anvil’s efforts to apply computer technologies to all aspects of engineering, project management, and resource management.
John holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California at Davis. He also attended the Program for Management Development at the Harvard Business School. He holds Professional Mechanical Engineer licenses in the States of Washington and Alaska.
Rick Porter
Board Member
Rick has served on Anvil’s Board of Directors since 2008 as an Independent Director. During his career, Rick primarily worked for owners, so he brings that perspective to the engineering consulting business.
Rick spent over 30 years working for BP where he held various technical and management positions in engineering, marking, operations, and acquisitions and divestments within Refining, International Businesses, and Exploration/Alaska. He was the BP Cherry Point refinery manager for approximately 15 years. Before retiring in 2008, Rick served as BP’s Vice President of Operations Management.
He remains active in the community and oil and gas industry by providing consulting services for safety, operations, and projects for refineries and serving on various non-profit boards. These include serving as Chairman for the American Petroleum Institute General Committee on Refining, Director of the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association, and Board member of the Bellingham Technical College Foundation
Rick holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from The University of Akron.
Scott Anderson
Board Member
Scott has served on Anvil’s Board of Directors since 2008 as an Independent Director.
After an early career as an attorney, Scott joined McCaw Cellular (now part of AT&T) in 1986 and rose to Senior Vice President of Acquisitions and Development, a role he filled until departing in 1997. Since then, Scott has remained active in the communications and tech industries, investing in numerous early-stage companies and serving on several boards. He is currently President of Northeast Wireless Networks, a regional wireless provider, and serves on three other boards of directors (including one public-company board).
Scott holds a B.A. in History and a Law Degree from the University of Washington.
Terry Gardiner
Board Member
Terry Gardiner has served on Anvil’s Board since 2008 as an Independent Director.
Terry was Founder and CEO of NorQuest Seafoods, an Alaska based seafood processing company, from 1981-2004. NorQuest operated in eight locations with a thousand employees and marketed its products in 27 countries.
Terry was an elected member of the Alaska Legislature from 1972-1982 and served in many leadership roles, including Speaker of the House when the Permanent Fund and Dividend programs were established. From 2005-2012 he worked as a non-profit policy director to reform our health care system in Washington, DC and state capitals.
Rhonda Laughman
Board Member, Project Leader
As a Project Leader, Rhonda is responsible for overseeing all phases of project development from inception to project turnover. She works closely with the project team to ensure projects are executed successfully. Since joining Anvil in 2014, she has worked in our Billings office leading refinery projects and upstream single and multi-well production projects in the Bakken, Powder River, and Moxa/Green River basins.
Rhonda brings over 18 years of experience working in the Oil & Gas, Industrial, and Manufacturing industries. Before joining Anvil, Rhonda spent 14 years working for Cargill Incorporated in various roles, including Packaging Build Project Manager and Refinery Project Engineer. She joined Anvil’s Board of Directors in 2018.
Rhonda holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from The Ohio State University.
Dena Lund
Board Member
Dena joined Anvil’s Board in 2019 as an Independent Director.
Dena is currently EVP & Chief Operating Officer for Sterling Energy where she leads the teams managing all operations, compliance, and capital projects for the company. Before joining Sterling in 2014, she spent many years at Encana in a variety of leadership and commercial development roles. Dena has extensive field operations/engineering experience, including several years on site at large gas processing facilities and as Plant Superintendent and Field Operations Leader.
Dena holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder.
Rob Farrow
Board Member
Rob joined Anvil’s Board of Directors in 2020.
Rob served as Anvil’s Chief Financial Officer from 2008-2019 where he was responsible for Anvil’s reporting, accounting, planning, financial analysis, treasury, and human resource services.
He brings over 32 years finance experience with 23 years in Chief Financial Officer roles in both small and large consumer products companies. Rob has successfully restructured and managed finance teams, managed debt restructurings, initiated and led strategic planning processes, and accomplished financial turnarounds. He has extensive experience in acquisitions and divestitures and has led audit functions as Director Internal Audit for a $5 billion company and as a client manager of a big-four public accounting firm.
Rob holds a B.A. in Business Administration from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Canada. He was also a Chartered Accountant in Canada.
